Tyronn Lue says it’s ‘crazy’ people think he asked permission to bench stars in Game 3

In the wake of Cleveland’s 119-114 victory over the Pacers in Game 3, in which they set an NBA Playoffs record by overcoming a 25-point halftime deficit, Cavs coach Tyronn Lue should have been in a great mood Saturday when he met the media.

Instead, Lue challenged media reports after that game that he asked permission from stars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love to keep them on the bench in the fourth quarter.

Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue said Smith tried to give it a go for the third quarter, but said it wasn’t smart to play.

Smith was evaluated Monday night and will get checked out again before the series moves to Indiana for Thursday’s Game 3. Smith, who had a noticeable limp Monday night, hopes to play Thursday.

If they let me play, I’ll play. My leg ain’t broke, Smith told reporters, via ESPN, following Monday’s win that gave the Cavs a 2-0 series lead. I wanted to play, they didn’t want me to play.

Iman Shumpert replaced Smith in the second half and Lue praised Shumpert’s tenacity, especially on defense as the Pacers held Indiana’s Paul George to four points in the third quarter.

It was really good for us, Lue said of Shumpert. We needed that Cheap New York Giants Jerseys spark.
